Ecuador – Peru guided tour (The great escape)

South America is and has been one of the most valued destinations to travel to and have a great adventure, this is due to its landscapes, cultures, and above all how cheap it is to visit it. Within this adventurous destination, there are 2 jewels impossible not to visit, we are talking about Ecuador and Peru. We started our trip with the motorcycles of Ecuador Bike Rental by Sleipner in the center of the planet, Quito, the capital of Ecuador, surrounded by mountains, active volcanoes, culture, and Andean landscapes that will captivate us from day one. This time the rental motorcycles that were chosen were KTM 790, SUZUKI DR650, and TRIUMPH TIGER 900 RALLY. ECUADOR – PERU (THE GREAT ESCAPE) GUIDED TOUR The history (South America is and has been one of the most valued destinations to travel)Although Ecuador is a relatively small country, it has an immense variety of climates, landscapes, and cultures, as you can see on the first day of our adventure. In just 30 minutes we will arrive on our motorcycles at one of the highest points on asphalt, the Papallacta paramo at 4063 meters, which already means a drastic change in vegetation and climate, even getting snow depending on the time of year. From this point we have a constant descent until we reach the gateway to the Amazon, we quickly reach 400 meters and we can see the change of vegetation again, until now 3 different climates and landscapes in just 5 hours of travel. We are greeted by cheerful and playful capuchin monkeys, a clear sign of the jungle and its wild fauna. Ancient towns and their culture welcome us to get to know their lifestyle that has changed very little over the years, we enjoy the typical food of the place made before our eyes, Chicha, and Maito is traditional. We continue our trip to return little by little to the Andes but not before enjoying our second day in the jungle and cloud forest of the Baños area, waterfalls, rivers, rafting, and many other activities await us in this city. Transportation   We take tourist transportation to these places, the Chiva, which is nothing more than a small truck with wooden chairs and no windows to enjoy the scenery. Baños is located at 1800 meters, so its climate is mild during the day, perfect for water activities, and a little colder at night, which allows us to get to know the city on foot and enjoy a delicious dinner. The next day seems short in a distance of 332 km, but we must leave early to take advantage of the day since when crossing the Andes this will take us all d ay. A road with many curves awaits us today, the first section takes us to the first Catholic church in Ecuador, built where the first city of Quito was founded, the Balbanera continues to maintain its decoration and history since 1534. Andean landscapes, crops of corn, wheat, quinoa, etc, accompany us all day, at one point we find ourselves bordering mountains above the clouds, with views of landscapes between mountains, valleys, and canyons, what more could you ask for in a motorcycle adventure? We know the Inca ruins of Ingapirca, a temple dedicated to the sun god and the moon goddess, were very important for the Inca culture. Finally, we arrive in Cuenca, located at 2500 meters but in a valley, it welcomes us with a pleasant climate that remains that way throughout the year, old buildings, contrasted with its exposed brick architecture is a great visual attraction, its warm people and its delicious food are just an extra to this experience. The guinea pig is one of its characteristic dishes, impossible not to try it. Cuenca Rest day to get to know this beautiful city, its beautifully decorated churches with great history, the history of the city and landscapes that we can discover from a tour bus that takes us through its narrow streets full of life and colors. A new day and new landscapes await us, so we get our motorcycles ready and hit the road, farms and more plantations say goodbye to Cuenca, only to give way to semi-desert mountains that take us to the coast, where cocoa and banana surrounding the road. This is how we reach the border with Peru, hereafter carrying out the COVID protocol and presenting the vaccination card, we proceed to leave Ecuador and enter Peru, once this procedure is done, we must temporarily import the motorcycles to Peru. All this procedure takes approximately 1 hour per motorcycle and rider, so we must go with time and patience. Ecuador Bike Rental’s guide, Pancho, is in charge of all the legal procedures for the rental motorcycles, it is a long process but he knows the procedure so it is fluid. Welcome to the land of eternal summer. One of the characteristics of Peru is its climate on the coast, lots of sun, heat, and the Pan-American highway awaits us. We arrive at Punta Sal, where we enjoy a day at the beach, warm waters and relaxation are the strong points of this day, we visit Mancora where we can stock up on sunscreen, purchase a SIM card for our phones and be able to be connected in addition to having a first view of the landscapes that await us the following days. Arriving to Peru (South America is and has been one of the most valued destinations to travel)The first difference that we can see is the roads of Peru since when crossing deserts their roads are straight and little traveled, this allows us to go faster and reach our destinations at a better time. We leave for Chiclayo, on the way we can learn a little about Peruvian culture, and its gastronomy and before arriving at the hotel we visit the first cultural destination, the mummy of the Lord of Sipan. A former ruler of the Mochica culture, a culture that predates the Incas. Back at

The boat ride can last 2 hours, so it’s advisable to book in advance to avoid the pressure of tour sellers seeking higher cos Fauna The observation of fauna is almost immediate; the blue-footed boobies often appear along the way, unfazed by human presence. You’ll enjoy watching them raise their legs in an improvised dance to attract partners. Male boobies, identified by their blue legs once they reach adulthood, are the ones that perform the intricate dance. They form pairs with older females and work together to protect their offspring. Capturing photos of these beautiful birds is easy; they seem to pose knowingly for the camera. The ‘Red-legged’ route leads to the opposite end of the island, where visitors can observe nesting red-breasted frigate birds in the vegetation. If you are lucky, you will have the chance to watch the chicks, of singular beauty. Moreover, the landscape of the island is special, with birds perching on giant cacti, offering beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. 4 tips for riding a motorcycle in the rain.

Not everyone loves the rain… Honestly, we must admit that Ecuador is one of the best countries to ride a motorcycle all year round. But driving a motorcycle in the rain is something else because we don’t like to get wet. Even if it rains, you have to ride the bike! Despite the challenges, don’t let rain dampen your trip. Riding in the rain may not be ideal, but it’s manageable. On two wheels, especially on wet surfaces, visibility and traction are reduced, posing greater vulnerability. Exercise caution. Here are four tips for rain riding: wear proper gear, maintain visibility, adjust riding style, and inspect your bike. (Ecuador is one of the best countries to ride a motorcycle all year round. (Even if it rains, you have to ride the bike!). 4 tips for riding a motorcycle in the rain: Drive the motorcycle according to the intensity and amount of rain. Adapt motorcycle driving to rainfall intensity, asphalt condition, and grip strength against the force of water on the road. The worst happens when a spark begins and not when it rains hard. In such conditions, water mixes with dirt, creating a slippery layer on the road, posing challenges for riders. Safety distance in case of rain Always being at a safe distance at any time with your motorcycle is good and even more so if it is raining. The safest thing is to keep twice the normal distance, about 100 meters, for two reasons: first, to gain time to react well in advance, and second, to prevent the water from rocking the wheels of the car in front.   How to brake in case of rain If you don’t usually use the rear brake, now is the time to get in the habit. The ideal in these cases is to touch the rear first to contain and then the front to stop. Relying on all the effort on the front caliper is a bit risky, as you can easily lose the front part when locking (low-side the bike). On the other hand, try not to break in the middle of a curve, do it sooner. Anticipate turns, slowing down beforehand to avoid braking or changing direction mid-curve, especially on wet roads. On days of heavy rain, puddles can overly wet the brake discs and form a liquid layer between the disc and the pad, which acts as a lubricant. In the event of unexpected braking, the braking capacity will be significantly reduced. In addition, the levers have more travel and the touch is very spongy. Repeatedly acting on them as a pump helps them regain the initial touch. Sudden temperature changes, like driving over puddles with hot brake discs, can cause them to bend slightly. The well-known ABS (Antilock Brake System) prevents the wheels from locking in the event of heavy braking. It consists of a pump incorporated into the brake fluid circuits and some sensors that control the revolutions of the wheels. If one or both wheels suddenly reduce their revolutions during sudden braking, the ABS detects this and interprets that the wheels are about to lock without the vehicle having stopped. How to prevent the helmet from fogging up? The difference in temperature between the hot air that we exhale when breathing and the cold outside causes the helmet screen to fog up. This is a serious problem because you will quickly lose your vision and have to lift the screen. To avoid this, it is recommended to open it slightly to allow air to enter, use a pin or a nasal mask. The pin lock is a small screen with a silicone edge that adheres to the inner surface of the helmet screen, creating a sealed air chamber to prevent fogging. For its part, a nose cover prevents the air that we expel through the nose from hitting the screen, which always causes the screen to fog up. The sum of both elements will greatly minimize the appearance of fogging. The ideal is to use a clear screen, leaving the smoked/tinted ones for the summer since the luminosity with water decreases a lot. You also have to be careful with the fog from the mirrors, when entering a tunnel it is very easy for them to fog up, for example. These tips will make your ride under the rain a bit safer. Then again, our mission in your tour is for you to enjoy yourself, there’s always a “plan B” to take. | Visit Us | 4 tips for riding a motorcycle in the rain. | Our website

Sleipnir: Horse of odin, 8-legged horse.

Nordic mythology has the creation of Sleipnir, one of the strangest horses that have been part of stories and legends. Odin himself rode Sleipnir, attributing supernatural qualities to his physical form and enhancing his remarkable origin. Over the centuries, many historians who have engraved his name by battles and conquests or by leading towns or armies have had In common. He had the company of a horse that he has protected and carried his rider on his back to achieve his goals. It is not surprising that this symbiosis has been used countless times in literary and cinematographic fiction.   And in the same way, it happens in what respects mythology.   In the case of Nordic culture and its myths and legends, one of its main figures is none other than Odin considered its main god who also encompasses the domain in different aspects such as war and death but is also considered the wiser since he has the gift of prophecy, magic, and victory.   His throne, from where he can contemplate the nine worlds, his spear Gungnir, and his horse Sleipnir are essential elements in the mythology of the god of war, which the prophecy indicated would guide both gods and men to avoid the end of the world or also called Ragnarok.   From the mythologizing of Odin and as one of his main most faithful companions, the role of his horse stands out, an equine with a supernatural physical form that is part of Norse mythology and legends starring his rider.   Origin and birth of Odin’s horse.   Originating from a time when the Gods feared the destruction of Asgard’s walls after a battle. To find a solution, trust a man who promised to rebuild it in 16 months. But his request – the sun, the moon, and Freya – seemed disproportionate to Odin and his people. Loki suggested shortening the terms, confident the stranger would fail. The man remained, insisting only on receiving the aid of his horse, which would assist him in carrying the stones for building. As the months passed, the builder met his deadlines, alarming the gods who feared losing the sun, moon, and Freya. When blame had already focused on Loki, he devised a plan to avert the catastrophe. In a critical twist, he transformed into a mare to divert Svaðilfari, ensuring he abandoned his duties. The furious man reverted to his true form, that of a giant foe of the gods, consumed by anger. After what occurred, all sorts of agreements were broken, and Thor delivered a hammer blow from Mjolnir to the head of the impostor as payment. Once the deception had been resolved, Loki returned in her mare form, revealing her pregnancy. She gave birth to a gray horse with eight legs, Sleipnir. Loki presented Sleipnir to Odin, assuring him that no horse would match its speed. God of shamans He will take you by sea, land, and air, and also to the Land of the Dead and back here.” A promise that Loki, despite his usual tricks, fulfilled. The myth of the horse Sleipnir As a faithful and eternal companion of Odin, in Scandinavian mythology, the figure of the horse Sleipnir has had a great role, both in the Poetic Edda (compiled in the 13th century) and in the Prose Edda. Sleipnir is described as one of the greatest and swiftest horses, capable of carrying his rider to the Realm of Death. This gray equine also symbolizes the eight winds that blow from its cardinal points. Although according to other sources the number of its legs was six, most indicated that there were eight.   Sleipnir, Odin’s spirit helper, joins him on travels through nine worlds, embodying a supernatural and mythical presence. Shamans consider Odin the ‘God of the shamans,’ so they call his horse the ‘horse par excellence of the shamans.’ Depicted in Norse mythological poems, Sleipnir’s extraordinary traits and physical prowess distinguish him from ordinary horses. He helped Odin in all his journeys until the end of his days. Sleipnir’s exceptional qualities make him the ideal companion for Odin, solidifying his status as the ultimate horse in Norse mythology. Triumph’s Missing Link.

Celebrating the 120th anniversary of the British manufacturer, the brand’s biggest collector has revealed the existence of documents that prove the originality of this model a century ago. Triumph’s Missing Link: Dick Shepherd, the world’s largest collector of Triumph motorcycles, refused to be left out of the celebration of 120 years of the British brand. For this reason, he made a surprising discovery: finding and restoring a prototype from 1901 that rewrote history books. Someone has set a production start date for an advertisement and some press reviews. This unit is nothing more than an experiment to study the interests of potential customers. Developed from a standard bike and engine from Belgian manufacturer Minerva, the bike finally cleared all doubts. Prototype Shepherd noted that the prototype came to him via a recently departed friend, expressing excitement over its unique features. The person had a letter from Triumph, dated 1937, detailing the origins of the unit,” said Dick. “The fact that the engine number matches Minerva’s records for its first collaboration with Triumph in 1901 gives the prototype undoubted historical significance,” commented the collector. Dick also stated: “As a lifelong enthusiast of the history and achievements of this incredible brand, discovering this true fossil and restoring it to the same condition in which it was first displayed in 1901 gave me immense satisfaction. “. They unveiled the 1901 prototype at the recent British Motorcycle Live Show before moving it to the Hinkley Triumph factory. A new room designed to commemorate the brand’s 120th anniversary displays this historic motorcycle. The one-millionth Triumph produced since the company’s modern era began in 1983 accompanied her there. A Tiger 900 Rally Pro emblazoned to commemorate the moment. Ride a Motorcycle Safely

Riding a motorcycle gives a feeling of freedom, twisting of the accelerator, feeling the air and the movement of this vehicle, you think you have the total hang of it, “controlling it”, however, the risks are multiple. To ride a Motorcycle Safely so that the integrity of the pilot won´t be threatened. We can avoid any type of accident by paying close attention while riding a motorcycle, but we must always be aware of other things. Here are 10 tips from Harley Davison so you can ride your motorcycle more safely: 1. Helmet use. This element will protect you in the event of a fall or crash. Keep in mind that in addition to protecting you from possible injuries, it reduces wind noise. Wearing a helmet can save your life. 2. Motorcycle in optimal conditions. Make sure your motorcycle is in good condition before you hit the streets and/or highways. Check tires, lights, clutch, mirrors, and brakes. There should be no problem driving. We recommend that you take your motorcycle to a mechanic for a complete service. 3. Attention. When you are about to start at a traffic light, even if it is green, ALWAYS check that no one is going to cross it, the probability of colliding with another vehicle “in motion” puts your life at risk. 4. Brake control. When approaching an intersection, slow down so you can stop quickly if necessary. You have to look for other vehicles or pedestrians that could represent danger, if you know where they come from you will be able to direct your attention to the road without any problem. 5. Go and be seen. Check and verify that your lights are in perfect working order, especially when driving at night or in places where light conditions are zero. 6. Distance. When you drive between cars, try to keep a safe distance so that the cars can see you and allow you to react to unforeseen maneuvers by them and thus avoid a possible crash, a slight brush with another car is capable of causing a dangerous fall. 7. Not so fast. In traffic and if the cars are stopped, try to drive slowly (maximum 20 km/h), to be able to brake in time in case a door opens (another of the “classic” accidents in the city). 8. Notify. Mirrors, turn signals, and changes of direction were invented for a reason, ALWAYS use them when you make a change of direction as well as to check out of the corner of your eye that there is no vehicle parallel to or slightly behind your motorcycle. 9. Respect. You do not drive alone, there are pedestrians, vehicles, animals, and objects, you must pay attention to those that may suddenly appear in your way, as is the case of streets with parked vehicles, and avoid any run-over. 10. Responsibility. NEVER drive under the influence of alcohol, always do it calmly and very seriously. All up to you…   | Visit Us | Ride a Motorcycle Safely

The last Inca emperor’s tomb was found

The Machay hacienda, nestled deep in the subtropical jungle of the Chugchilán parish in Cotopaxi, is a remote place that preserves the ruins of the last stronghold of the Incas of Quito. There, historian Tamara Estupiñán discovered archaeological remains believed to be the last dwelling place of the Inca Atahualpa. Indeed, the tomb of the last Inca emperor was found in the Malqui Machay sector in Sigchos canton. Since then, this hacienda has achieved notoriety inside and outside of Ecuador. An area of three hectares contains most of the remains, which consist of very important ruins built in stone and with unique characteristics. In the place are the vestiges of a monument of late imperial design, which has an impressive entrance alley, through which you can access different rectangular rooms. Aqueducts and canals surround a trapezoidal plaza, with everything located around it. “One researcher explains that, according to their hypothesis, Rumiñahui likely guarded Atahualpa or his mummified body at the last stronghold.” They are monumental ruins with great symbolic meaning because it would have been like the small house or abode, as the people say. Chroniclers, from the last Capac Inca, from Tahuantinsuyo ”, added Estupiñán.   Malqui Machay in Quichua means “burial of the body of the ayllu’s progenitor.” A building loaded with symbolism that would not reach the category of fortress or temple. The History Getting to this magical and historical place will take you 12 hours of travel, round trip, from Quito. However, the effort is worth it to live an unforgettable adventure full of picturesque landscapes typical of the Andean range. In Sigchos, explore Central Park and the historic mother church, brimming with captivating history and cultural significance. Explore and capture stunning landscapes at Quilotoa volcano, Zarapullo Natural Viewpoint, Toachi River Canyon, and Blue Hills. All this can be achieved with the motorcycle Hot & Cold Guided tour.   On July 16, 2004, Jaime Pástor Morris, archaeologist Tamara L. Bray and Tamara Estupiñán. An Ecuadorian fellow of the French Institute of Andean Studies, arrived at the Malqui hacienda (Inca mummy in Kichwa). They found few Inca archaeological remains, but it was the tip of the iceberg. In 2010, Estupiñán organized a second expedition. On June 26, a few kilometers from the hacienda, they discovered an Inca archaeological site on a hill called Machay. Estupiñán has dedicated a decade to unraveling the actions of the Incas from Quito in the war against Cusco. The Place Close to the Cotopaxi volcano and next to the royal road or Qhuapac Ñan, a royal Tambo was built in Callo that served to house the Inca elite and their hosts. Despite ongoing investigations, Estupiñán argues that it is an Inca monument of late imperial design with a marvelous entrance alley. According to her, access several rectangular rooms, built with cut stone, surrounding a trapezoidal plaza. Aqueducts and canals encircle the site, one leading to a small waterfall, forming what appears to be an ‘Inca bath’. They believe Malqui-Machay, the name given to the monument, to be the burial site of the ayllu’s progenitor. However, Estupiñán believes that more than answers, the finding raises questions. And she adds: “Let Archeology help to decipher this enigma.” Francisco Moncayo, a 38-year-old agro-zootechnical engineer. One of the owners of the Machay farm describes it as a tranquil place surrounded by rivers and mountains. This is where banana, lime, orange, lemon trees grow and a variety of crops and ornamental plants. Since 1860, Ecuadorian coffee has been cultivated in the coastal lands of Manabí province and exported to Europe and America. This year, coffee production and export surged thanks to increased support from coffee enthusiasts despite historical fluctuations. The great conditions of cultivation in Ecuador allow the country to offer the most delicious coffee of all time. The great quality of our coffee is thanks to the diversity of ecosystems and the different regions of Ecuador.   Coffee tree plantations dot the coastal lands, including Manabí, Guayas, and El Oro. In the Andes Region, you’ll find them in provinces like Pichincha, Imbabura, and Carchi to the north, as well as Loja, Azuay, and Zamora Chinchipe to the south. How is made? Coffee plantations flourish in the Amazon’s Napo and Orellana regions, and in the Galapagos Islands, notably Santa Cruz and San Cristobal. Of course, there are more provinces where Ecuador produces its exquisite coffee.   Ecuadorian coffee is the only coffee that has a unique variety of flavors and tastes. Ecuador Bike Rental recommends coffee shops such as La Traviesa which offers great foods and a variety of coffee options and Estrato uses local products to give you the experience of our full culture. We assure you that you won’t regret taking some back home. Take the coffee route to sample Ecuador’s diverse coffee offerings, stopping at each coffee shop for a tasting experience. If you want the opportunity to get to know more about the Ecuadorian coffee production, Ecuador Bike Rental offers you different tour plans that not only will give you the most adventurous, extreme, and unique experience of your life in a motorcycle, but also will give you the opportunity to pass through different cultivations and restaurants of coffees. | Visit Us | Coffee and chocolate moto tour Ecuador
