Charitable Efforts on the Road: Supporting Schools in Cangaua and Oyacachi

The motorcycle adventure through Ecuador not only offers breathtaking landscapes and adrenaline-filled routes, but it also provides the opportunity for Charitable Efforts on the Road: Supporting Schools in Cangaua and Oyacachi and connecting with local communities, many of which are located in the mountains or remote rural areas. During our tours through Cangaua and Oyacachi, we realized that these places offer more than just nature to discover: rural schools working hard to educate children from low-income families. These communities are part of the landscape we explore, and we want to give something back to them. With this purpose in mind, we launched a donation campaign with the commitment to allocate 10% of our annual gross revenue as a company to support foundations or schools in need. Last month, thanks to the generosity of a friend of our company, the collaboration of our customers, and everyone’s effort in the campaign, we were able to gather a significant amount of resources. And we achieved one of our goals: to provide concrete help to two schools in Cangaua and Oyacachi, and one children care center in the south of Quito. A Purposeful Journey These two communities are located near routes that, as a motorcycle tour company, we know very well. Cangaua and Oyacachi are stops we often make with our tourists, who come to experience the thrill of riding through rural roads and enjoying Ecuador’s natural beauty. However, during these visits, we don’t just admire the scenery; we also observe the needs of the people living there. That’s how we identified these two schools. The schools, with limited resources, opened our eyes to the importance of investing in their education and future. In each one, the teachers dedicate their lives to education, despite the lack of infrastructure, teaching materials, and basic equipment. The children, always smiling, welcomed us on several occasions, and we could see firsthand what they needed to improve their education. We decided we had to do more than just pass by; we wanted our presence to leave a positive mark. The Donation Campaign: A Collective Effort Our donation campaign was born from the idea that we can all contribute to the well-being of the communities we encounter on our journeys. We established a clear plan: 10% of all our annual revenue from motorcycle tours would be allocated to charitable causes, with a particular focus on children’s education and supporting foundations that work with low-income children. The idea resonated not only within our team but also with our customers, who felt part of this purpose knowing that their motorcycle adventures would also contribute to the development of local communities. Throughout the year, we started organizing events and meetings to raise funds. We also promoted the campaign through our social media and among our close friends. It was precisely thanks to a friend of the company, whose generous donation added to the collective effort, that we were able to gather resources. With these funds, we set out to support the two schools in Cangaua and Oyacachi. Delivery of Materials: A Special Day The highlight came last week when, after several months of planning, we loaded our 4×4 trucks not only with adventure gear but also with essential school supplies for the children. Among the items we delivered were speakers for an audiovisual hall, notebooks, planners, and a variety of stationery that the schools needed to continue operating effectively. The delivery was an emotional experience. Upon arriving at the schools, we were welcomed by the teachers, who were visibly moved and thanked us repeatedly for the help, explaining that these materials would allow them to improve the quality of education and offer more resources to the students. One of the most special moments was when we handed over 3 sets of speakers for different ambiances. The teachers explained that with this equipment, they could conduct more interactive and dynamic activities with the children. From playing educational audio and video to organizing presentations and community events, the impact of these speakers went far beyond what we imagined. It filled us with joy to know that something as simple as a speaker could make a difference in the children’s school life. Impact and Future Our experience in Cangaua and Oyacachi was a reminder of what truly matters. We realized that, as a company, we have a responsibility that goes beyond offering unforgettable motorcycle experiences. We are committed to the well-being of the communities we visit on our routes, and we will continue to seek ways to support them. In the future, we plan to expand this initiative and reach more rural schools and foundations in other parts of Ecuador. We want this to be a long-term commitment to the local communities, using our resources and network to make a real difference. Additionally, we want to invite more people to join this effort. Our customers, friends, and collaborators can continue to participate in our donation campaign, and with their help, we will be able to continue providing support where it is most needed. Education is key to the development of any society, and we firmly believe that investing in children’s education is an investment in a better future for all. Our next goal is to continue raising funds and organizing more visits to other schools in need of support. The smiles of the children, the gratitude of the teachers, and the feeling of doing something good are the best incentives to keep going. Exploring Ecuador on a Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour Ecuador is a motorcyclist’s paradise, offering diverse landscapes and incredible routes. So, here are some must-see destinations to explore on your self-guided motorcycle tour: A Journey with Impact This journey to the schools of Cangaua and Oyacachi showed us a new way of traveling and viewing our routes. What started as a motorcycle adventure has transformed into a mission to support local communities and children who need more opportunities to learn and grow. The donation of speakers, notebooks, planners, and stationery is just the beginning.

How to buy a used motorcycle as a newbie (Part 1)

This is your first time and you don’t How to buy a used motorcycle. Are you looking for a second, third, or million-hand motorcycle? It’s not a problem, but you do need to know if what you buy is going to spend more time with the mechanic than rolling, or worse yet if it is a death trap. Here we present 5 ways to know if you are making a good decision. Before you start and go visit your new confidant of sorrows and pleasures, you must calm down and think with your head. Leaving emotions aside at this crucial moment of the purchase is difficult, however, it will save you many headaches later. So don’t idealize the motorcycle or go pre-in love. Ecuador Bike Rental is the leading motorcycle rental company in the country, offering unparalleled adventure experiences for riders. We don’t buy used motorcycle, but once we sell our second hands, we help the buyer to identify what he needs to look out for. So without further ado, here they are: 1. The owner Well-maintained motorcycles have careful owners. To begin with, look at how the motorcycle is advertised. When you go to see it, first get to know the owner with a couple of leading questions that can give you a better clue as to whether the person is telling the truth about the bike. For example: Ask him about the small scratches, the scratches on the handguard, the exhaust, and the indentations on the rims. Look at the handlebar ends if they are new and not the factory ones and find out what happened. Ask him if he has ever dropped it (it has happened to all of us at some point). If the owner is not honest about this, he will not be honest about anything. So you can start to trust or distrust. 2. How it starts A bike that has lived a life of abuse and feels depressed will not feel like getting out of bed, so pay attention when starting it. The best way is to let the bike be as cold as possible. First, check the oil level in the bubble or on the dipstick, and see if it is within tolerance. (Normally between the two lines of the display: High and low). And while you’re at it, if the motorcycle has a water radiator, remove the radiator lid or check the coolant deposit and see if what’s inside is coolant or water, and at what levels. If it is water, most likely the internal cooling pipes are rusty. Now turn on the ignition and see if all the warning lights on the dashboard illuminate. If they don’t, a cheating seller may have cut a wire and they simply won’t turn on anymore. While you’re at it, After that, it’s time to boot. A bad bike when cold will make all kinds of strange sounds before it warms up, so keep listening to the engine running. Wait for the radiator fan to turn on. This way you will know that the fans are working and that the thermostat has been working correctly. If it doesn’t, most likely the bike may have been overheated. Normally, the thermostats for a 4-stroke motorcycle with aluminum parts are set to turn on at 95 degrees Celsius. While you wait for it to warm up, look at the color of the smoke coming out of the exhaust. If it is a medium leaden blue color, it means that it is consuming oil. Most likely a cylinder lacks compression and is close to some major repair. If it is white, do not be alarmed, there is possible condensation of water on the exhaust parts. If after turning on the fan or being hot, steam or white smoke continues to come out, then it means that you have a coolant inlet into the combustion chamber and a seal may be faulty. Remember, this Newbie’s Guide to Buying a Used Motorcycle is just that, a newbie’s guide. If you have more serious doubts, it would be good to take it to your trusted mechanic. Also, remember to read the second part of this blog on How to buy a used motorcycle. Normally, a half-day ride can serve as a verdict to see if the bike is worth it or not. Exploring Ecuador on a Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour Ecuador is a motorcyclist’s paradise, offering diverse landscapes and incredible routes. So, here are some must-see destinations to explore on your self-guided motorcycle tour: 3. Maintenance Poor condition is often the result of poor maintenance. While you wait for the bike to warm up, start playing private detective. You can start by inspecting the bottom. First, check the tire and rims. Look for any indentations or bends in the rim profile. These are more common and pronounced in aluminum rims. If they are spoke rings on dual motorcycles, look at the tension of the spokes, or if some are missing (the latter is a very serious sign of lack of maintenance). Look at the wear pattern on the tread. If it is in the center and the tire pressure is correct, most likely the motorcycle has never been raced on a race track. And while you’re kneeling there, look at the suspension. Check to see if the front bars are sweating oil and if the dust covers are in position. Also, look at the rear shock. Do you have any sweating or is there too much mud stuck to it? You can check the drag kit. How is the chain-sprocket-pinion set? Do they have worn teeth? Roll the bike a little and check the chain tension in some places while you ride it. If you feel that the chain tightens and loosens while you ride it, it means that you are about to change the ENTIRE KIT. Keypoints You can also get a lot of information from tires. Did you know that they have an expiration date? This is measured in
