You will find here the great adventure motorcycle tips. From how to change a tire to what to take in your next ride. This blog was created as an open source, to help riders worldwide with a bit of knowledge acquired along the years. Not only from the rental company, but also from years of adventure riding of people that has shared their experiences with us.

The idea is also to guide in a better way, what services is the best for you: a guided tour, self guided tour or simply the rental. Our mission is to present to you the core of Ecuador, and one of the best ways to enjoy it, is with previous knowledge about how you can enjoy yourself fully. The polyester mesh liner in the jacket’s body creates an air gap between the body and the jacket, while the multiple venting system functions even when the zippered thermal liner is removed. The full-sleeve thermal liner with zipper and pocket has laser quilted taffeta with synthetic polyfill insulation, making Joe Rocket’s Turbulent jacket a cool to cold weather option. Add a long-sleeve inner layer, as I did, and it can handle downright chilly temperatures, even in windy weather.The heavy-duty full front zipper is backed by a narrow storm flap, as well as the most impressive inner storm flap I’ve seen. These are removable and Joe Rocket says the material is “high density”. At the back of the pants, below the waistband, is a thin “tail bone pad”. The pants boast nearly full-length water-resistant zippers on the sides and “melt-resistant” material on the inside of the lower legs. Reflective material in the shape of a checkerboard is also present on the lower leg. The “Original by Motul” category corresponds to the one previously titled “Malles Motos”.Unassisted motorcycle and quad riders without any registered companions in assistance or media are eligible for this category.Pilots in this category must adhere to a specific regulation; failure to comply results in exclusion from the category.This category is reserved for the first 30 registered in this category. Original by Motul, the toughest category of the Dakar Since the 2020 Dakar Rally, the category once called “Malles Moto” has been rebranded as “Original by Motul” for motorcycle and quad riders. A name that undoubtedly refers to the origins of the Dakar rally in the late 1970s. It was then, in 1978 when the pioneer Thierry Sabine -D.E.P.P.- conceived a race with marked adventure overtones, in which the riders had to take their vehicles, motorcycles, and cars, from Paris to Dakar with no more logistics, for many of the riders, than what they could carry on their own motorcycles -they carried with their spare parts, tools, gasoline, and even the tent-. The philosophy persists in the Original by Motul category, arguably Dakar’s toughest, requiring participants to compete without technical assistance, managing maintenance, repairs, and spare parts themselves. The organization supplied the riders with a “trunk” to store spare parts, wheels, tires, and personal belongings. They transported these items between stages and provided tools and workspace for bike maintenance. The ‘Male Competitors can pack a Malle (trunk) that the organizers will transport to each bivouac. The trunk must contain their spare parts, tools and equipment, and any necessary personal effects. There are restrictions on the maximum dimensions of the trunk. The organizers will also transport a spare headlamp, a set of wheels and tires, a tent, and a travel bag.Competitors must also carry out repairs on their own vehicles in Dakar Rally 2021. The challenge Despite the abundance of kit, life for Original by Motul riders is far from easy. Every day, riders must prepare their bike for the next stage without outside help. This alone can take a few hours, depending on the condition of the bike. Riders must also prepare their own road books before each stage. While a communal canteen is available for eating, it lacks the team of nutritionists found with factory-backed participants. RENT KTM 390 ADVENTURE. Orange Brigade’s little ADV sees minor refinements and electronic upgrades. The 390 Adventure is KTM’s entry-level ADV inspired by big bikes. KTM -Nice suite of electronics that just keeps getting better. -Confidence-inspiring braking power. -Suspension works well for both street and dirt applications. Verdict While big-displacement ADVs are the golden ticket for long-distance exploration, there’s an argument to be made for smaller, lighter adventure bikes to help introduce riders to the category while still having a good time on the trail. KTM’s 390 Adventure is a perfect example of a small-displacement ADV that is easy to ride but fully capable of delivering full-spectrum fun. Overview. The motorcycle market has long prioritized highly capable, yet large, adventure motorcycles suitable for riders with years of experience. So,that meant there are only a few ADV machines for beginners. KTM spotted the gap, resulting in the 2020 KTM 390 Adventure launch. The Austrian manufacturer reused the heart of its entry-level-appropriate 390 Duke and RC 390 and wrapped the engine in a chassis suitable for tackling tougher terrain. With input from multiple Baja race winner Quinn Cody, the handling and suspension were developed for off-road chops. KTM claimed its trellis frame was similar to that found on the 450 Rally, placing greater emphasis on the 390 ADV’s off-road spirit. For 2022, KTM sprinkles a little more ADV pixie dust on the 390 Adventure to bring it closer to its big brothers. Updated electronics with off-road riding modes and “beefier” cast wheels make this latest offering even more capable. The new paint also brings it visually closer to KTM’s Dakar bikes. A welcome place for the traction control off-road mode. KTM Updates RENT KTM 390 ADVENTURE The bike remains essentially the same machine, with an unaltered steel trellis frame wrapped around a water-cooled 373cc single-cylinder DOHC water-cooled engine that makes an impressive 43 hp and 27 lb-ft. of torque Recently updated to meet Euro 5 emissions limits on KTM’s home continent, that mill gets a new set of electronic rider aids for 2022. The traction control system now has an off-road mode along with the standard street setting, allowing the wheels to slip more before intervening to reduce torque. Meanwhile, the updated ABS now includes a cornering system that works when the bike is leaning. The 2022 bike also has new 10-spoke alloy wheels that are said to be stronger than previous rims. Powertrain: engine, transmission, and performance. The Adventure’s Euro 5-compliant 373cc single-cylinder engine is the same one found in the 390 Duke. Although motivated by a single-cylinder under 400 cc, the bike has plenty of big-bike attitudes. This liquid-cooled single makes 37.5 hp at 8970 rpm and 23.2 lb-ft. at 6,990 rpm when spinning its rear wheel. In addition, there’s plenty of torque for dirt or road applications and ample power for the highway, though riders should expect to use the upper edge of the rpm range when running at highway speeds. With the wind at our backs, we noted that its top speed could exceed a ton and reach triple-digit speeds. The 390’s road manners are excellent. KTM Handling Quinn Cody, a decorated off-road racer turned KTM R&D rider, provided feedback on the 390 Adventure’s suspension and handling, resulting in a WP Apex suspension that exceeds expectations. Furthermore, the suspension handles technical off-road sections with stiffness while remaining planted and taut on the road. The fork is adjustable for compression and rebound, while the shock is adjustable for preload and rebound. The bike turns easily thanks in part to a 56.3-inch wheelbase and lightweight packaging. If traction becomes uncertain, the lean angle-sensitive TC is there to help. In addition to the Street driving mode, the electronic suite now comes with Off-Road mode to accommodate off-road driving. Furthermore, as noted above, “The 390 Adventure can handle any terrain that comes it’s way as long as you attack it at the right speed.” Brakes Braking performance from Brembo’s budget-conscious ByBre units is excellent. The radial-mount four-piston front caliper clamps firmly to a large 320mm disc and a floating two-piston unit grips a 230mm disc. Off-road mode completely disables the anti-lock braking system at the rear and reduces intervention at the front. So, KTM says the new cast alloy wheels provide increased stiffness compared to the outgoing units. KTM Real-world fuel economy and MPG. KTM claims a fuel economy of 100 km/3.37 liters (about 62 miles/0.9 gallons). Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility. The two-piece fanned seat is ideal for longer rides; the bar reach and peg are quite roomy and comfortable. There is ample room to move around the saddle. Seat height is somewhat high at 33.7 inches. An impressive 7.9 inches of ground clearance gives the 390 Adventure a good cushion between hard parts and rough topography. Additionally, the stubby windshield offers some wind protection and doesn’t intrude on the rider’s line of sight. Electronics In conclusion, despite being a smaller bike, KTM loaded the 390 Adventure with an impressive array of electronics that allows it to excel regardless of conditions. KTM 890 adventure

ADVENTURE UNCHARTED If the best places are the toughest to reach, the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R is the right machine to take you there. With an upgraded engine boasting enhanced capacity and performance, this motorcycle is ready for serious off-road adventures. Drawing on vast race knowledge and experience, KTM crafts a real-world package for riders exploring every adventure’s outer limits. 01. ENGINE & EXHAUST ENGINE The most notable upgrade over its predecessor is the engine. The engine in the KTM 890 ADVENTURE range delivers impressive power, featuring significant increases in both power and torque.Improvements to electronics and pre-muffler also ensure it meets the strictest emissions regulations. This, paired with a 15,000 km service interval and low fuel consumption, makes it ready to hit the long road. CYLINDER HEADS The DOHC cylinder head contains twin chain-driven camshafts and two spark plugs (one per cylinder). Crafted lighter than forged ones, the camshafts feature a profile optimized for exceptional engine torque. 1 mm larger intake and exhaust valves, along with reworked ports optimized for airflow, contribute to peak performance delivery. The cylinder head now houses a new balancer shaft positioned between the camshafts, matching the increased RPM and rotating mass. In addition, the installation of a knock sensor enables the detection of knocking combustions, facilitating the use of lower octane fuels, which is ideal for round-the-world travel. PISTONS Forged box pistons, lighter and combined with a DLC-coated piston pin, reduce reciprocating mass for improved performance. Two jets per piston now handle piston cooling, a departure from the previous one-per-piston setup. Furthermore, increasing the rotating mass of the crankshaft by 20% enhances engine behavior at constant speed. In addition, it is beneficial for cornering stability without losing the agile riding feeling. RIDE-BY-WIRE KTM’s ride-by-wire system translates rider throttle commands into precise throttle valve positions for each riding situation. GEARBOX The 6-speed sequential gearbox achieves faster shifting due to shorter shift lever travel, lighter spring action, and quicker Quickshifter+ technology. Additionally, we glass bead blast the teeth on 4th, 5th, and 6th gears for improved reliability. Quickshifter+ – optional on the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R – allows for clutchless up and downshifts throughout the rev range.  PASC CLUTCH The slipper clutch not only prevents rear wheel chatter under hard deceleration but also reduces the force required when changing gears, enabling riders to actuate the clutch lever with only one finger, saving energy while riding. Oil circulation is based on a compact semi-dry sump system to minimize friction losses. The oil actively pumps out of the crankcase, clutch housing, and gearbox, preventing unnecessary oil flow through the engine. The oil sump integrates with the oil pump housing, housing two pumps and a pressure regulation valve. Additionally, the engine features a larger oil cooler for efficient cooling. CRANKCASE New horizontally split crankcases allow for the engine’s increased bore but remain high-pressure cast from aluminium. This allows for reduced wall thickness, weight savings and optimized surfaces, offering the engine designers more freedom in their design. The crankcase integrates the open-deck cylinders. CRANKSHAFT A rotating mass increase of 20% means this forged, one-piece crankshaft improves engine behaviour at a constant speed, reducing any interference from centrifugal forces. The 435-degree firing order also produces a sound similar to that of the larger LC8 engine, which makes the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R feel like one of its V-twin ADVENTURE brothers when cracking the throttle open. CONRODS New conrods feature a trapezoidal V-shape top-end, reducing oscillating masses and supporting the motor’s revvy nature and power output. We also fit the top-end bearing with a bronze conrod bearing instead of a DLC coated top-end for longevity. BALANCER SHAFT When punching out those long days in the saddle, linking up tough offroad stages with sections of tarmac, uncomfortable engine vibrations are kept to a minimum thanks to two new balancer shafts, one in front of the crankshaft and the other in the cylinder head between the two camshafts. CYLINDER The nicasil-coated aluminium cylinders are an integral part of the sleeveless engine casing. Open deck cylinder construction optimizes cooling, enhances production tolerances, and minimizes potential cylinder warpage during production. Cylinder bore increased from 88 mm to 90.7 mm for higher displacement alongside a longer stroke. EXHAUST Stainless-steel and ready for adventure! The exhaust system on the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R features a redesigned pre-muffler and efficient catalytic converter for Euro5 compliance. The whole design is focused on centralizing masses, which also improves the exhaust system’s ground clearance. AIR FILTER The KTM 890 ADVENTURE R features easy air filter accessibility for cleaning and servicing, even if you’re out in the most remote location while on a ride. The airbox is located under the seat with the intake at the rear of the bike. Easy air filter access enables lower seat and tank positioning, making the bike narrower in crucial areas like the leg area. I was following the stranger on a bicycle with a machete into the Ecuadorian jungle, thinking about what on Earth am I doing here and what are my survival chances. And here’s what brought me to the country I never expected to visit. In June I got a message on Instagram. We are searching for an influencer, told Davo. Davo sleeps around 3 hours a day, but he’s full of energy and is shining as he talks about his child, bike rental and tour company Ecuador Bike Rental Having worked for 16 years in the oil business left the ex-racer with a feeling that life goes by. He decided to change it and started the company with just two rental motorcycles that he bought. That now grew into a business with 6 employees, a nice 2-store office in Quito, over 20 bikes, and cool clients coming from all over the world for guided or self-guided tours. The decision At that time I was in Georgia dealing with my driving license, and Ecuador seemed too far away. Also, I’ve worked with sponsors as I was racing, and I know how to deliver good content and meet their expectations, but never thought of myself as an influencer. But as I arrived in Mexico, Ecuador seemed much closer. And you don’t say no if someone invites you to a new country to ride a bike. Once again, permanently bewildered about what was going on, I packed my stuff and left from Tijuana to Quito. Davos met me at the office, and on the fly, we designed an adventure of 3 acts – Coast, North, and Amazon. – You never tried surfing? We’ll send you surfing, he said, quickly drawing another line on the wall map, while I could only listen open-mounted, trying to follow. On the way to the Coast driving through some remote forest, I saw a plate with the inscription “Pepino Gigante”. I drove by, but curiosity turned me back. The man with a machete came out as I stopped by the house. How big is your cucumber, I asked, can I take one? No problem, he said, but we need to harvest that. Riding alongside on my moto, we ventured into the jungle, where he sliced a massive, unfamiliar 8-kilo vegetable. That sounds like quite the task! I assisted him in transporting the cucumber to the main road for sale. The Coast. As I arrived in Canoa, the guys told me to search for Kiki, the surf instructor. Search how? I went to the beach and in my broken Spanish tried to explain what I need to every single person. Having met probably everyone in the village, I found someone who called the instructor to come. A wild self-made vehicle arrived at the beach, sliding and over-throttling, and somehow I knew it was my ride. Kiki patiently taught me all day, despite my struggles swallowing salty water and repeatedly falling from the board. Then we had a swim to see some caves, and then the high tide started and I almost died between the rocks. As we had a dinner of some amazing seafood Ecuadorian coast can offer and cocada – a dessert made of coconut with dulce de leche, a man in a hat with a bottle of whiskey on a dancing (!) horse jumped into the restaurant. Gateway To The Amazon Basin – Self-Guided Adventure.

186 km southeast of Quito, we’ll find our gateway to the Amazon region from the Andes. A town with a variety like no other, this is Baños de Agua Santa. The town is well known for its beauty and tourist attractions. As we go along in our journey, we’ll enjoy the sight of the Colossus on the way, that’s Cotopaxi Volcano to the left and Illinizas to the right, and slowly making a transition from the Andes and the mountain region to the Amazon. First stop: breakfast on the road with a selected menu for you to choose from, adding to the adventure. After that, you’ll continue on your way to Baños, arriving in the city in approximately 2 more hours. On our way, you’ll find the majestic Cotopaxi, known for its symmetric shape, and the Illinizas sisters to the right. You’ll surround by two major cities in Ecuador: Latacunga and Ambato. As soon as you arrive in Baños, you’ll have some time to relax and enjoy the weather. Baños is at 1815 m.s.n.m., and with warm tropical weather. Many recommendations will be given about where to visit and where to have a proper lunch. Unpack, then hop on a Chiva party bus for a lively city tour with music and drinks, enjoying the surroundings. This includes the famous Pailin del Diablo (devil’s pan). Basically, you’ll pass over one of the main dams in Ecuador, and ride along the Pastaza river. Stopping for photos and trying the canopy line over the waterfall are both exciting options to enhance your adventure experience. Riding your motorcycle thru stone tunnels and an amazing landscape is one of the highlights of this day. Here you can have the opportunity to do all kinds of adventure sports including canopy, canyoning, climbing, trekking, cycling, paragliding, rafting, and horseback riding between the main activities. It offers a unique experience with abundant vegetation, allowing for stunning landscapes and encounters with beautiful local fauna. Purple Colada: A memory-flavored drink

Colada Morada is a thick sweet beverage traditionally drink for The Day of the Dead, November 2, but it’s not restricted to that only day because you can usually find it a couple of weeks before and after in all cafes and restaurants in Ecuador. It’s very distinctive deep purple color comes from the many red fruits, herbs, and flours it has. An ancient Andean recipe, lost in pre-Hispanic times, revived by Spanish priests and passed down through generations. In the beginning, the Incas used to mummify their dead, and in November, on the celebration of Aya Marcay Quilla, which means the “month to carry with the dead”, relatives visited the tombs of their loved ones to take out their bodies, bath them and dress in their best clothes. Then family and deceased “walked” through the city in the middle of chants, dances, and prayers. The ritual concluded with a special meal: the making and enjoyment of “chicha morada” accompanied by edible corn figurines. They performed this ceremony to honor the memory of those who have passed away. The Spanish conquest led to bans on such ceremonies, replaced or adapted over time to Catholic celebrations by priests. Thus, the Aya Marcay Quilla was replaced by The Day of the Dead and so the recipe was also modified with some new ingredients. Blackberry, Andean berries, purple flour, and sugar cane were incorporated into the local cuisine adding a new touch to this millenary drink.   Nowadays, the preparation of the colada Morada involves a dynamic process where the whole family gathers for its elaboration. Ingredients The essential ingredients are Andean berry, blackberry, strawberry, pineapple, “babaco”, passion fruit, “guava”, cinnamon, cloves, sweet pepper, purple flour, panela, cedar leaves, lemongrass, orange, amaranth, myrtle and ishpingo, cinnamon flowers. Being the official beverage for an ancestral representation of the life and death cycles, it doesn’t come alone. People often serve Colada Morada with “Guagua de pan,” sweet bread rolls shaped like a baby, creating a unique combination. “Guagua” means baby in Kichwa, and “pan” is bread in Spanish. They frequently fill them with chocolate or fruit jellies. Preparation Start by sifting the purple cornmeal through a fine sieve. Soak the flour in warm water to prevent lumps from forming. In a pot, boil blackberries, Andean berries, guavas, and oranges, then liquefy them and sieve. Another important activity on this date is the purification and energy renewal bath, led by shamans. Inti Raymi also includes the traditional pampamesa, an ancestral ritual where typical Andean foods are shared, such as corn, potatoes, melloco, beans, and others, combined with different kinds of meat, especially guinea pig. So, the meal reflects the community´s brotherhood,  as the food is placed on a tablecloth on the floor.
