Panama Hat Trail

One of the most famous handcrafts of ecuador is the Panama hat or toquilla straw hat, made originally in montecristi (manabi province – pacific ecuadorian coast) from the toquilla or jipijapa palm. This light-colored, light weight and breathable hats are worn as accessories to summer-weight suits and are recognized world wide. The art of weaving the panama hat was recognized by the unesco as part of the list of intangible cultural heritage.

The landscape in this trail surprises riders starting the enduro at the beach (at sea level) arriving to incredible ceibos forests whithin feew kilometers of riding, where it is possible to see deer, iguanas, howling monkeys and hundreds of species of birds and butterflies in an amazing dry coastal forest.
